Li

Today we started to study about confucius, and hes 3 main words: LI, REN and YI.

I got to learn about the 3 of them but specially about li.

li is a custom, ritual, ritual propriety,  right etiquette and something we do for good. this is all represented in an abstract idea

After reading some of the short passages of the Confucius book I chose number 4.7 "The master said, people are true to type with regard to what sort of mistakes they make. Observe closely the sort of mistakes a person makes then you will know his character."  I know that my school experience is similar to 4.7 in that I am watched by classmates and teachers, and I am judged.

The message I got and could relate closely to the meaning that li gave me was that the mistakes you make determine who you are, and what determines who you are then it all depends on what you do and what things you do repeatedly that then become your customs. Also your mistakes make you see and show you your etiquette or morals and then help you make better decisions in the future.I can connect this passage to something that happens everyday in real life, and the life I live in at school. What I mean is that everything you do either good or bad marks who you are and what people think of you. Also what I can get out of this is also that bad things many times stay longer in a person memory than the good things you do so to be aware to keep a "clean record" because that is what everybody, talking about school will get out of you. So keep a clean impresion on the people who are around you.

For example suppose if you are in a class and you copy from a test of a friend, you might not get caught at first but what if the second time you do, what is the teacher going to think about you? Could the teacher in charged of that clase trust you ever again? He is also probably going in a meeting tell other teachers, what will they also think of you? Thats also going to stay in your record and they will not forget what you did. So be careful of what you do and what will shape you for the future.
