Aphorisim

“Yesterday is History, Today is a Gift, Tomorrow is a Mystery.”

This is the official logo of tomorrow land. My dream is to go to this 3-day concert in Belgium and party 24/7. I’m in a complete agreement with this aphorism because yesterday is something that all ready happened, and you cant do anything to change it. Tomorrow you don’t know that is going to change or happen so the future is something that you should be afraid of, but not letting it determine who you are right now. Today is what count and make the best of today because you might not know what happens tomorrow.

Siddhartha 4

These last pages of the book made everything clear. It was when Siddhartha struggles to keep his relationship with his son, but his son was not willing to do that. Also in this part Siddhartha learns a lot from Vasudeva who later returns to the woods after he has help Siddhartha with everything in order to reach his enlightenment and gives him the role of the ferryman. Siddhrthas and his old friend Govinda reunite. Govinda has a lot of question about wisdom and how to achieve inner peace, but Siddhartha only makes Govinda  kiss his  forehead and since that moment Govida knew that Siddhartha was Buddha. I think what what caused Siddhartha the most change was when he felt he had lost something; his son. This relationship was very important to the course of the book.

The constant struggle between Siddhartha and his son was a really important part of the book. Not only because it would make Siddhartha think what he did of leaving his house and leaving everything there, but also that in order for a person lo love you, you need to be there with them. This fight I can also apply it to teen-agers life because sometimes our parents need to know when they have to stop controlling us and give us more freedom. . Also its really important for us and our parents as well to understand that theres a point when you cant handle the situation anymore because you are feeling pressure or you just don’t want to be there and that point can cause leaving those that you love. Just like Siddharthas son did. He just stole a boat and ran away.  “You just don’t get me dad” was a phrase that Siddhartha’s son said. I always say it to my mother when she doesn’t understand my actions or doesn’t let me do something. This book also made me think about how parents feel as well.  When we don’t pass time with them and forget that they are there. I hope that this story can improve my relationship with my mom and don’t let it get to the point that there’s no going back and things are totally ruined.

In the end this book gives us a variety of things to think and take in count that we do or not do. It has a lot of ideas that are true and deserve trying. I hope that Siddhartha’s teaching can help me in the future and can help my relationship with my parents and be aware of what we have before it  leaves.

metamorphoses

1) Why does Erysichthon cut down the tree?
Erysichthon after alot of time demanding to cut the tree was basically because they needed the wood. He also says "It's only a tree that the gooddes like." And he cuts it down

2) Define piety.
Piety according to the dictionary is: reverence for God or devout fulfillment of religious obligations: a prayer full of piety.

3) How does this term relate to Erysichthon?
This term realtes because Etysichthon always wants more and he insults everyone like "Get off me, you, pious son of a bitch!"  Also when he sells his mom.

4) What connections can be made between this scene and this children's story?
I think that the "children shorty" is something we still se today alot. If something that is not realistic is said by a small kid its really common that adults do not believe the kids. This happen when the girl said that poseidon had taken away the mother.

5) Relate the events in this scene to a specific passage in Siddhartha.
